ESOS & ISO50001 Preparation and Support

An ESOS Assessment applies to large undertakings and their corporate groups that, on the 31 December 2014 employs over 250 people or has an annual turnover of 50 million or more. It mainly effects businesses but in addition it can also apply to not-for-profit bodies and any other non public sector undertakings that are large enough to meet the qualification criteria.

The deadline for an assessment is 5th December 2015, after this is must be carried out every four years.
Penalties for Non Compliance
You environmental regulator is responsible for compliance and enforcement activities. Your registered office or principal place of activity (in the absence of a registered office) determines your regulator:
England Environment Agency (EA)  – https://www.gov.uk/energy-savings-opportunity-scheme-esos

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) www.naturalresourceswales.gov.uk/apply-and-buy/carbon-emissions/what-are-the-schemes/energy-savings-opportunity-scheme-esos/?lang=en

Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA)  http://www.doeni.gov.uk/niea/pollution-home/energy_savings_opportunity_scheme__esos_.htm

Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) http://www.sepa.org.uk/regulations/climate-change/energy-saving-opportunities-scheme/

If you qualify for ESOS and your organisation is fully covered by ISO 50001, you don’t need to carry out an ESOS assessment. You just need to notify the Environment Agency that you are compliant with ESOS.

If you qualify for ESOS, but your organisation is not fully covered by ISO 50001, you need to carry out an ESOS assessment. The assessment helps you work out what your organisation needs to do to comply with the ESOS regulations.

Delyn Safety can help you by carry out an ESOS Assessment of your business, by appointing an approved lead assessor who will carry out the procedure and review your energy audits, including: identifying areas of consumption, finding energy saving recommendations and reporting compliance to the relevant Environmental Regulator.

If you are considering an ISO 50001 certified energy management system as a route to comply with ESOS or to extend an existing ISO 140001 accreditation please contact Delyn Safety who can support and via an approved  ISO 50001 lead assessor.
