Many organisations are unsure whether a first aider is required for their organisation, and as a result do not pursue the right first aid training course to meet their requirements.

An organisation’s assessment of risk and the range of activities and operations carried out at the organisation will be essential to deciding whether a first aider is required. The HSE provides guidelines for completing your risk assessment, which you can find here: http://www.hse.gov.uk/risk/.

Where a workplace first aid risk assessment identifies a need for an Emergency First Aider in the Workplace, this one-day qualification meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

All learners will have the skills and knowledge to provide the organisation with Emergency First Aider’s that can provide treatment to their casualties in a prompt. safe and effective manner.

Duration

A minimum of six contact hours in the classroom (one day), consisting of practical and theoretical activities, plus some pre-course activity could be required.

  • Burns

  • Assessment of the situation

  • Anatomy

  • Choking

  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty

Certification

Practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor, and a three year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria.

All learners will receive a FAA accredited certificate.

In addition, the HSE strongly recommend that all students undergo an annual refresher programmer of three hours.

Where a workplace first aid risk assessment identifies a need for a First Aider in the Workplace, this three-day qualification will give the participants a qualifications to the highest level of First Aid, meeting the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

It is a requirement of the Health & Safety law that employers provide a safe and healthy environment to work in.  If your assessment of first aid needs highlights the need for qualifies first aiders, then this level 3 qualification will provide you with suitable, highly trained personnel.

This comprehensive three-day course covers a wide range of first aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with emergency situations with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way.  In addition, this course will include any protcol changes that may have arisen since your last training course.

A three year Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment.

The most common cause for a heart to stop is a heart attack.

This course is designed for those who may have the need to use a defibrillator to increase the chance of survival for a person who may suffer such an attack.

The outcome of the course is that the delegate will have gained the knowledge and confidence to use a defibrillator effectively to help increase the chances of survival.

  • CPR and recovery position,

  • The heart,

  • Angina,

  • Abnormal heart rhythms,

  • Resuscitation with an AED,

  • Safety considerations.

Who should attend?

Those who have recent training in CPR, establishments that have assessed the need for a defibrillator to be available on their premises and healthcare professionals.

Course duration

This course is held over 1/2 a Day.

All learners will receive a FAA accredited certificate.

This course has been developed for those who are working with children and infants.  It will be of particular interest to teachers, child minders, creche assistants, playgroup personnel and anyone else who has a responsibility for their welfare whilst in your care.  The purpose of the qualification is for the learner to attain the knowledge and practical competence required to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations.

 

Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage

This two-day qualification fulfils the requirements for first aid training detailed in the Department for Education’s statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.

  • Role of the Paediatric First Aider

  • Diabetic emergencies

Assessment information 

The qualification is assessed both through practical demonstration and written assessment.

You must successfully pass both the written and practical assessments to science the qualification.  There is no gradin of the assessment, only pass or referred.

Certification

The qualification is valid for three years form the date of achievement.  It is recommended that you attend annual refresher training. You will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years.

All learners will receive a FAA accredited certificate.

This one-day Emergency Paediatric First Aid course has been designed for those who have an interest in child and infant Basic Life Support, including parents, guardians and family members.

The qualification is designed for learners with a responsibility for the care of children and babies and provides knowledge and skills to deal with a range of paediatric first aid conditions and incidents.

Topics include:

  • Role of the Paediatric First Aider

  • Seizure

  • Primary survey

  • Choking

  • Resuscitation (CPR including the safe use of an AED)

  • Minor injuries

  • Wounds, bleeding and shock

The qualification is assessed both through practical demonstration and oral questioning  You must successfully pass a practical assessment to achieve the qualification.

 

Certification 

The qualification is valid or three years from the dates of achievement.  It is recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training.  You will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years.

All learners will receive a FAA accredited certificate.

It is strongly recommended that qualified First Aiders and Emergency First Aiders undertake an annuals refresher course in order to keep their skills up-to-date and refreshed.

This three hour annual refresher course has been designed to meet this requirement and will help First Aiders to maintain their skills and knowledge whilst also keeping up-to-date with any changes.

This course provides learners with the knowledge to recognise a range of mental health conditions, how to start a supportive conversation and when and how to signpost a person to seek appropriate professional help.  Learners will know how to recognise and manage stress.

Learners will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions as this can only be carried out by healthcare professionals but will gain the knowledge to identify when a person may have a condition and know where they can go to get help.

 

Learning outcomes:

  • Know what mental health is, why people develop mental health conditions and the role of a First Aider for mental health.

  • Know how to provide advice and practical support for a person presenting a mental health condition.

  • Know how to recognise and manage stress.

  • Know how to recognise a range of mental health conditions.

A maximum number of 16 learners on the course.

 

Assessment 

The qualification is assessed through a written assessment paper which the learner must successfully pass to be awarded the qualification.  There is no grading of the assessment; learners pass or are referred.

This course provides learners with the knowledge to recognise a range of mental health conditions, how to start a supportive conversation and when and how to signpost a person to seek appropriate professional help.  Learners will know how to recognise and manage stress and understand the impact of substance abuse.  They will learn about the first aid action plan for mental health, be able to put it in place and know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace.

Learners will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions as this can only be carried out by healthcare professionals but will gain the knowledge to identify when a person may have a condition and know where they can go to get help.
