Who is the course suitable for?

  • Any person who intends to use bench grinders, pedestal grinders, petrol cut off saws (Stihl) or angle grinders.

  • Any person who is currently using this equipment but has received no formal instruction in the safe use of abrasive wheels in the last 3 to 5 years.

  • Any person who is starting a career in engineering.

What is covered in the course?

  • Health and Safety Legislation.

  • Identification of different types of abrasive wheels/discs.

  • Safe use of bench, pedestal, angle-grinders and Stihl cut off saws.

  • The safe replacement, set-up and dressing of abrasive wheels.

  • The safe storage of abrasive wheels.

  • Safe use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Practical session wet stone cutting using a Stihl cut off saw with dust suppression equipment.

  • Practical session metal cutting and angle grinding.

  • Practical session abrasive wheel replacement, set-up and dressing bench grinders and pedestal grinders.

  • Weekly inspection and recording.
