NEBOSH National General Certificate is the most widely held health and safety qualification in the UK for managers, supervisors and staff from all types of organisations who need a broad understanding of health and safety issues.

Many people take the NEBOSH National General Certificate as a first step in a career in health and safety. It provides a valuable overview and is a sound basis for further professional study.

The National General Certificate is accepted by IOSH – Institute of Occupational Safety and Health – to meet the academic requirements for Technical Membership of (IOSH) (Tech IOSH) and associate membership of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).

 

Entry Criteria

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however this NEBOSH certificate is a Level 3 qualification equivalent to an A Level or equivalent UK college qualification. This means that the qualification is a demanding qualification to study and learners must be prepared and willing to study at this level.

Learners must have a suitable standard of English language to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.

This course will be remotely delivered by a tutor in a virtual classroom and delegates must have access to a suitable PC, laptop or tablet with a camera, speakers and a robust internet connection sufficient to cope with online delivery.

Duration: 1 day a week for a 13 week period

  • Unit NG1: Management of Health and Safety

  • Why we should manage workplace health and safety.

  • How health and safety management systems work and what they look like.

  • Managing risk — understanding people and processes.

  • Health and safety monitoring and measuring.

  • Unit NG2: Risk Assessment

  • Physical and psychological health.

  • Musculoskeletal health.

  • Chemical and biological agents.

  • General workplace issues.

  • Work equipment.

  • Fire.

  • Electricity.

How will you study: This course consists of either online or classroom based activities, DVD presentation, written assessment, practical training and assessment.

How will you be assessed:

The updated NEBOSH NGC course now consists of two assessments:

  • NG1 – An open book examination to assess what you know. This is scenario based and will include a closing interview, you will be asked questions about your submission.

  • NG2 – A practical risk assessment to assess what you can do (3 hours). Learners will complete a risk assessment and develop an action plan for their workplace – this is immediately useful and valuable.
